The Happy Herdwicks welcomed a real life paramedic into the classroom. This half term topic is “people who help us”. Nicola showed the children lots of different equipment that helps her do her job. They looked at the two types of uniform she wears and learnt how to put on a bandage and sling. They learnt that the number to call in an emergency is 999 and what they needed to say to the operator. All children were then lucky enough to actually use the medical equipment that Nicola had brought in. The children took each other’s temperature, tested their blood pressure, listened to their heart, lungs and stomachs and checked their oxygen saturation.
