Welcome to the Oaks Unit! In our unit, we have the Oaks, which consists of our Year 3 and 4 children, and the Mighty Oaks, which is our Year 5 and 6 children.
Our Teachers
The Mighty Oaks are taught by Mrs Collinson and The Oaks are taught by Miss Willett. All of the Oaks are together with Mrs Collinson for 3 afternoons per week.
Mrs Collinson
1. What do you like best about working at Tebay Primary School?
I love that we are one big family. We might be a small school but that means we all work as a close team and have lots of fun opportunities. One of my favourite things about working here is that we can take our learning out and about in the village whenever we like.
2.Tell us something about yourself that children and parents don’t know.
I play rugby for Upper Eden Eagles and have a little boy that was born on Christmas Day.
3.What is your favourite children’s book and why?
My favourite book has got to be anything by Julia Donaldson. I love the rhymes in her books and that every one of her stories has a different twist and turn.
4. What is your favourite quote?
Aim for the moon and even if you miss, you will still land among the stars.
Miss Willett
1. What do you like best about working at Tebay Primary School?
This is my first year at Tebay Primary School, and it already feels like a special community. I am loving getting to know pupils across the school in the playground, in the corridors and even on my first school trip to Coniston Water Park. Everyone is always so welcoming and willing to help in any situation. I can’t wait for the year ahead.
2. Tell us something about yourself that the children and parents don’t know.
I love and will try any sport. I am currently training for my 10th marathon – if you see me hobbling, you’ll know why. I have also been coerced into my first weight lifting competition with my sister in November. Eek.
3.What is your favourite children’s book and why?
My favourite children’s book is Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl. I struggled to find books growing up that I really enjoyed to read. But Roald Dahl books are written in such a creative and magical way. It is impossible not to see the story come alive in your mind.
4. What is your favourite quote?
There is no failure. You either win or you learn. (Garry Keller)
PE
Our PE days are Tuesday and Friday, and children will need to come in with full, name-labelled PE kit for either indoor or outdoor activities. Earrings will need to be removed for PE. If your child can not remove them independently, please cover them with tape before they come in to school.
Communication
Any messages can be sent directly to the class teacher through the Class Dojo page. These will be acknowledged and responded to during school hours. Any urgent messages should be directed to the school office. Alternatively, staff will be available to answer any questions at the end of the school day.
Homework
We ask that all children aim to read for at least 10 minutes, 5 days a week. This helps children to build and develop this core skill. In addition to this, we use Times Tables Rockstars to develop children’s knowledge of times tables. All children have login details for this app in their reading diaries, and practicing for at least 5 minutes, 3 or 4 times a week, will help children to retain their times table facts.
