To finish of their topic ‘People that Help us’ the Happy Herdies went on a trip to Penrith Fire Station.
The children were welcomed in by the whole team and started by listening to a story all about what to do when the fire alarm goes off at home. Then, they went and watched the firemen slide down the pole! After this, the children saw where they keep all of their uniform and watched to see how quickly they can get dressed! (30 seconds!). After this, the children learnt that firemen can clip together, hold on to each other or follow a rope so they don’t get lost. The children worked their way through a small course.
The children saw Roy try on the oxygen kit to help him breathe and learnt about what the different parts of his uniform do. Then the children went outside and saw real smoke from a training fire. The children got to use the hose and pretended to put a fire out on a building. Finally, they went inside and got to go inside the fire engine!
