“You can make anything by writing” – C.S.Lewis

We use a genre-based approach to writing ensuring children write for a range of purposes and audiences. Our writing recipe follows the cycle of:

  1. An extensive reading and exploratory phase to immerse the children into the genre.
  2. A gathering content phase to teach children the key age appropriate expectations to be successful.
  3. A planning, drafting and editing phase to show children writing is a process.

In addition to this, children are provided with opportunities to apply their writing knowledge across other subjects.

Throughout each genre, specific grammar objectives are taught and extra discrete lessons are taught if needed.
Staff work together both in school and across the trust to moderate writing using the Year group ITAFs.
